Two types of Medicare plans

Two ways to get your Medicare coverage

Almost every Medicare decision comes down to this choice.

Option 1

Original Medicare with Medicare Supplement

Keep Original Medicare and add a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy to help with the costs Medicare leaves behind.

  • Hospital (Part A)
  • Medical (Part B)
  • Use of any doctor or hospital that takes Medicare, across the U.S.
  • No network restrictions, which helps if you travel or see specialists out of state
  • Prescription drug coverage is added separately as a Part D plan

Option 2

Medicare Advantage (Part C) all-in-one plan

A single plan that bundles your Medicare benefits together, usually with extras Original Medicare does not cover.

  • Hospital (Part A)
  • Medical (Part B)
  • Prescription drugs
  • Help with out-of-pocket costs
  • Vision, hearing, dental, and more

We handle the confusing parts

Medicare has a lot of moving pieces, including parts, penalties, enrollment windows and networks. We keep track of them so you do not have to.

  1. Check your doctors and prescriptions

We look up whether your current doctors are in network and what your specific medications would cost on each plan.

  2. Line up your enrollment dates

Initial Enrollment, Annual Enrollment (October 15 to December 7) or a Special Enrollment Period. We make sure you file on time.

  3. Review it again every year

Plans change their costs and networks annually. We reach out each year to check that yours is still the right fit.

Common questions

Medicare questions we hear most

What is the difference between Medicare Advantage and a Medicare Supplement?

A Medicare Supplement (Medigap) sits alongside Original Medicare Parts A and B and helps cover the costs Medicare leaves behind. You can use any doctor or hospital that takes Medicare, across the U.S.

A Medicare Advantage plan (Part C) changes how you receive your benefits. It bundles hospital, medical and usually prescription drug coverage into one plan with a network of providers, and often adds vision, hearing and dental.

Does Medicare Advantage include prescription drug coverage?

Most Medicare Advantage plans include prescription drug coverage, along with help toward out-of-pocket costs and extras such as vision, hearing and dental. With Original Medicare and a supplement, prescription coverage is purchased separately as a Part D plan.

When can I enroll in a Medicare plan?

Most people first enroll during their Initial Enrollment Period around their 65th birthday. After that, the Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 to December 7 each year. Certain life events, such as moving or losing employer coverage, open a Special Enrollment Period.
